Volunteer lawyer helps cancer patient avoid homelessness
A Whatcom County individual under treatment for cancer was threatened with the loss of his property under a rent-purchase contract. Escalating property values have resulted in some landlord-sellers attempting to evict low-income individuals under rent-purchase agreements. This person had been behind on payments but had become current. A volunteer private attorney helped this person negotiate an agreement resolving all issues, including retaining the property. Without legal help, this person would have been evicted, confronted with homelessness and the lost of personal property and equity.Alliance Member: LAW Advocates
