Woman faces homelessness upon threatened foreclosure
A King County woman stood to lose her home in a foreclosure action because a realtor and mortgage broker talked her into a home purchase mortgage loan that she could not afford. Once she purchased the house, it was only a matter of months before she fell behind in payments, which constituted more than half of her monthly income. The bank foreclosed on the loan, and the realtor did very little to market the house once the client decided to sell it. A legal aid attorney helped the woman get an extension and retain a new realtor, who was able to sell the house before foreclosure. The woman got enough money from the sale to put towards moving and living expenses at her new apartment. Without legal help, this woman would have lost all of the money used to purchase the house and faced homelessness.
