A conversation with Professor Dean Spade and Nikkita Oliver.
As part of our Influential Voices signature speaker series, Professor Dean Spade will introduce his new book about mutual aid. Spade describes mutual aid as “collective coordination to meet survival needs in the face of crisis, motivated by an awareness that the systems we have in place are not going to meet them and are, in fact, creating the crises.” Mutual aid projects have proliferated during the pandemic and the 2020 uprisings against racism and policing. Special guest Nikkita Oliver will join him in a discussion about the role of mutual aid in social movements opposing policing, imprisonment, border enforcement, climate change, and wealth inequality.
